A fun day full of learning and structured data for the second Wikithon #ArtsLitt at the Bibliothèque nationale.
On Sunday, March 17, in the midst of the Francophonie Month, Wikimedia Canada, BAnQ, the Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF) and Littérature québécoise mobile (LQM) once again joined forces to highlight our authors, their work, and even their structured data, on Wikipedia and Wikidata.
The Bibliothèque nationale’s emblematic “wooden room” welcomed the twenty-eight Wikimedians and five organizers, from Quebec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Ontario. A great bunch of librarians, stakeholders from the Quebec and Franco-Canadian literary communities, literature researchers, and experts in structured digital data!
From a corpus of works by Francophone authors from Quebec and Canada, coming from diverse backgrounds, this publishing marathon highlights perspectives and voices that are often under-represented in the Quebec and French-Canadian literature scene.
From Marie-Andrée Gill to Elkahna Talbi, from Jovette Marchessault to Shayne Michael, ideas and words from Quebec and French-speaking Canada are making their way onto the Web and into people’s lives.
The results are very encouraging:
- 7 Wikipedia articles created
- 46 Wikipedia articles edited
- 206 bibliographic references added to Wikipedia
- 2400 items imported into Wikidata
Louis Germain, Executive Director of Wikimedia Canada, was present at the event: “It’s always a pleasure to organize events like the Wikithon #ArtsLitt. It’s a great opportunity to bring the Wikimedia community together and highlight the heritage of French-speaking Canada”.
